ANNUAL REPORT 2017
In Leicester we continue to act for three of the local universities and in
London acted for Middlesex University.
Our Bristol office has worked on a number of local school projects
throughout the year and at the end of the reporting period was
appointed by South Gloucestershire Council to act on the first phase
of the Vinney Green development, the redevelopment of an existing
secure school for young people.
In the Czech Republic we provided project management and cost
management services to the Municipal Authority of Chyne on a new
build primary school, the first phase of which is due to complete in
2018.
MDA LC Mann Limited
We re-registered MDA LC Mann Ltd during the year to provide
insolvency support services to the construction and property sectors.
This service offering is being marketed out of our Bristol office. We
have already secured a small number of commissions and are looking
to expand on this in 2018.
Recruitment and Succession
Recruitment of key individuals continued during the year and is
indeed still ongoing. Succession issues are being addressed with
plans now in place for our three largest offices in the UK: London,
Leicester and Bristol. Planning in respect of our other offices and
teams will continue in 2018.
As I reported last year, the company’s Articles of Association and
Shareholders Agreement were updated in the period to incentivise
wider share ownership. As a result, and following a series of
promotions during the year, three new Associate Directors and one
Associate acquired shares in the business.
Business Development and Marketing
In March we appointed a business development executive based in
our Manchester office to service the Midlands and North of England.
The role supplements our business development executive based in
London and support executive based in Birmingham and completes
the restructure of our business development and marketing team as
outlined in last year’s report.
Our website and marketing material were also updated during the
period.
Quality Assurance and Investors in
People
In February we were audited by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance
(LRQA) and transferred onto the new ISO 9001:2015 standard, a year
before the ISO:9001:2008 standard was due to expire, which was
extremely pleasing.
Our Investors in People certificate was audited mid-term in November
after the end of the reporting period. This was successful and we look
forward with confidence to the renewal of this accreditation when the
certificate expires in March 2019.
Graduate Training and Development
The development and training of our young people continues to be
an important part of our business. To illustrate the point, our two
most recently promoted Directors both joined the company as junior/
graduate members of staff.
We currently have ten members of staff working towards their
professional examinations for the RICS. It is anticipated that three will
sit for these exams this financial year.
New graduate surveyors joined our London, Manchester and Brighton
offices during the year with further vacancies to be filled throughout
the UK in 2018.
Charities
We continued to support the Evelina London Children’s Hospital
and the Matt Hampson Foundation as our major charities during the
period.
The Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire for the Foundation is due
to open in early 2018.
The Future
It is difficult to add to what I reported last year but I continue to believe
the future is bright for all our shareholders and staff.
The business has solid foundations in place, upon which to
consolidate and grow. There is always work to do but I am confident
we can continue to build on our achievements thus far and make
2018 an equally successful year.
