Description
Major redevelopment of the National Museum of History, an existing open-air museum complex comprising several different buildings.
The project comprises the refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed ‘Main Building’ to provide new learning centre facilities and 120 seat auditorium together with the total refurbishment of existing galleries to current environmental and display standards; enclosing of the existing courtyard to provide new entrance and orientation area; rationalisation of floor levels from five to two to improve access and visitor circulation; new cafe and shop and restoration of original facade; Construction of a new multi-purpose building elsewhere on the site providing additional display and activity spaces and new cafe; Landscaping improvements including play areas, coach and car parking; Archaeology Area to recreate several historic Welsh structures from the Iron Age, Medieval and Bronze Age periods.
